The Rivers Casino
Gateway started performing surveying work on this property back in the early 1990’s in preparation for riverboat gambling. We prepared ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Topographical and Utility Surveys and performed a detailed investigation into riparian rights. Riverboat gambling never came to fruition and the property sat idle until slot machine gaming was approved.
As the property became known as The Rivers Casino, we performed surveying work for the project that included ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Topographical and Utility Surveys for both the Casino Property and surrounding roadways. The property is located in the North Shore neighborhood. It faces the Ohio River to the South, with Heinz Field (home to the Pittsburgh Steelers) to the East and the West End Bridge to the West. Gateway was actively involved during construction of the Casino and Parking Garage by providing 3 survey crews on-site at one time and performing construction stakeout for numerous contractors.
Some unique tasks performed on this project were:
- River soundings in the area of the amphitheater and boat dock
- City street vacation of 3 public streets
- Survey layout services of 3,000 slot machines
- Monitoring the beam/column line adjustment for parking garage
- Consolidation plans
- Investigation of rights related to the bike/walking trail
- Measuring and determining material quantities
Ultimately, it was Gateway’s history of the property, survey expertise, flexibility, project management systems and support staff, and ability to provide quick, accurate work that contributed to making Rivers Casino a successful project.
