Kennywood

Opened in 1899, and beloved by anyone who has ever called Pittsburgh home, Kennywood Amusement Park is as much a Pittsburgh institution as the Steelers or the Carnegie Museums. With wooden-framed rollercoasters over 100 years-old to new, all-steel coaster attractions, Kennywood is a unique blend of old and new, constantly evolving to meet the demands of the thrill-seekers that pass through its gates every April through November.

Located between the bank of the Monongahela River and the steep hills of what was once called “Kenny’s Grove,” Kennywood is built upon a site with dramatic topographic features above ground and challenging geologic ones, below. Determining where new attractions can be placed, and how existing rides and attractions can be maintained or improved are just two ongoing support roles that Gateway plays. From geotechnical investigations for new rides, to improving various structures through the park, Gateway provides solutions so that the attractions at Kennywood stand the test of time and continue to thrill the hundreds of thousands of guests it hosts every year.
