AHN Wexford Hospital

Gateway’s history with the AHN Wexford site extends back to 1994 when Gateway Engineers developed the master plan for the larger Copperleaf development site. The large development was intended to be mixed-use, with commercial office complexes, retail developments, and space for healthcare facilities in the rapidly growing North Hills area of Pittsburgh.

Gateway began work with AHN in 2012 on the development of the original structure, referred to as a Medical Mall on the site. The medical mall was a professional office and surgery center facility intended to ultimately complement the addition of the AHN Wexford Hospital, which Gateway began work on in 2017. Together, these two facilities would create a regional healthcare campus and significant AHN footprint in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh.

Gateway provided initial permitting support, paving the way for the hospital project to move to design and planning. Gateway then worked on the selected design team, led by HKS Architects of Dallas, TX, to finalize the hospitals plans and details. Such details included all-new intersections on busy Route 19, where over 30,000 vehicles pass every day, and the integration of ambulance entrance and receiving bays into the existing parking structure attached to the existing medical mall parking structure.
