Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

Located in Washington, PA on a 33-acre site, the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum (PTM) has rapidly become a beloved regional institution. Since it’s opening in November of 2023, the museum has welcomed a diverse audience of trolley and rail aficionados, school children, and historically interested visitors. In 2024, the museum hosted over 48,000 visitors, with expectations that visitor numbers will continue to grow as more and more enthusiasts become aware of this unique museum attraction.

What began as a straight forward surveying project of the PTM property for the development of the museum and operations, steadily became a fully-integrated design and site construction solution for Gateway. From early preliminary designs developed by renowned railway artist J. Craig Thorpe, Gateway then worked with the museum building’s architect to create a site master plan. Led by Gateway’s Landscape Architecture team, the site plan evolved to meet the demands of the PTM board of directors, incorporating many historically significant trolley and railway artifacts into the site.
