Street Sign Coverage, Municipality of Mt. Lebanon In addition to its standard G.I.S. Mapping, Mt. Lebanon has adopted CartéGraph software's SIGNview® module to keep track of its street signs. The sign map component was requested by the Mt. Lebanon Commission for several different reasons according to Keith McGill, Code Enforcement Officer for the Municipality. “They wanted this information not only to identify the existing signs that we have out there, but also to identify areas where we might be able to eliminate some signs, where we have a proliferation such that one is obstructing the other, or where there might be too many signs in a small area that makes them difficult to see,” Mr. McGill said. Additionally, the information is used to identify unsafe or uncontrolled intersections that might be in need of some signs. “It allows our Public Works Department to create a maintenance program, so when they go out and repair, replace, or install a new sign, they can track that information and be able to provide information or summaries when it's requested from whomever may want that information,” McGill added.
