Public Works Garage Expansion Mt. Oliver Borough
Municipal & Inspection Teams
Ongoing

The Public Works Garage Expansion project is located between Brownsville Road and Middle Street and is adjacent to the Municipal/Public Works Building. The project involves the construction of a metal frame building and associated site improvements. The rehabilitation of the existing Borough Garage will enable the Borough to store their equipment used for the maintenance of the Borough's sewers and roads. The entire Borough will benefit from these renovations because the equipment used by the Borough forces will be kept inside, better maintained and last longer. The project involves the following items: demolition of some existing facilities, raising existing walls to accommodate a higher ceiling, repair of the existing fascia and exterior walls, installation of new glass block windows, installation of a new roof on the building, completion of needed electrical, fiberglass insulation installation and new ceiling installation, reinstallation of the garage doors and furnace and painting of the exterior walls of the building.

Two pre-cast concrete gravity block retaining walls were erected. One was 1 foot wide by 33 lineal feet and the adjacent wall was 2 feet wide by 27 lineal feet. Both walls were installed on a bed of stone. A four-inch perforated underdrain was installed behind the entire retaining wall to provide drainage to the storm sewer piping. Eight reinforced concrete caissons (30-inch diameter each) were drilled and installed around the perimeter of the proposed building. Four reinforced concrete grade beams (14 inches wide) were excavated for and poured on top of the concrete caissons and around the perimeter of the proposed building. The grade beam concrete was poured and placed with the use of a mechanical vibrator.
