University Of Pittsburgh – Student Housing Working with Perkins Eastman Architects, P.C., The Gateway Engineers, Inc. was an essential part of the team involved in the construction of a 400-bed student dormitory on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in the Oakland section of the City.

The project, which was completed in 2005, is located behind the Petersen Events Center in the hilly, upper campus area. This nine-floor residence hall is the first of several buildings that are planned for the site and will include a mix of suites, apartments and other types of housing units with one to four beds in each unit.

The University wished to have at least 40 percent of the work completed on the first residence hall by the fall of 2004, so the design and construction scheduling for the project were very tight.

Gateway was the site engineer for the project and coordinated with the architect and the university on the site's entire grading, layout and design of site utilities as well as the relocation and extension of existing utilities.

The project also included an ALTA survey, the design of sewers and a stormwater management analysis.

Gateway worked closely with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to identify and define tap connection plans, Planning Module approval, and NPDES permitting.
