  Katz Plaza

Working with Dan Kiely, a famous landscape architect from Vermont, The Gateway Engineers, Inc. is proud to have been involved in the site design for this urban park with a city streetscape known as Katz Plaza.

This project was a collaboration between artists Louise Bourgeois, landscape architect Daniel Urban Kiley and architect Michael Graves. The 23,000 square foot plaza features Mr. Kiley's signature landscape design with 32 linden trees planted closely together.

Located at the corner of Penn Avenue and 7th Street in the heart of Pittsburgh's cultural district, this unique park boasts granite eyeball-shaped public benches, and a custom bronze sculptured fountain.

The park is flanked by six inch caliper Linden trees which were imported specially for this park.

The plaza is named in honor of Agnes R. Katz through the generosity of her children, Marshall Katz, chairman of Cavendish Holdings and a member of The Cultural Trust's Board of Trustees, and Andrea Katz McCutcheon.

Gateway's role in the Katz Plaza project included preparation of an ALTA Survey, grading, researching, coordinating and implementation of all site utilities, design of sewers, and PWSA tap connection plans.

Gateway also played an important role in special paving, tree planting issues, permitting, and city streetscape.
